THOMAS 1737: Wealthy gentleman farmer Thomas Escott of Sandhill had a well-furnished house in 1765 including china, pictures, looking and weather glasses, and clocks. Although he had 115 a. of wheat and barley,
ploughed by 16 plough oxen, he had 128 ½ a. of hay meadow, which helped to support his 21 horses, 16 cows, 25 other cattle and 491 sheep. He also had 29 pigs, a
horse, an ox, two bulls and 126 wether sheep on the marshes, probably near the Parrett where he had 118 sheep at Combwich. He had a store of 132 raw or scalded
milk cheeses and his farm stock including crops and tools was worth almost £2,300.
Noted in registers as a Gentleman. Carhampton burial reg. of Sandhill. Witnesses to marriage Joan Escott and W. Withycombe. A church Warden.

Thomas Morgan from Glamorgan sold Sandhill to Edward Dyke of Tetton on behalf of James Smyth of St Audries (d. 1748) whose daughter Lavinia sold it in 1761 to the tenant
Thomas Escott. Thomas (d. 1765) was followed by his nephew Thomas Escott (d.1789), the younger Thomas’s wife Joan Withycombe (d. 1796) and their sons Thomas
(d. 1808) and John (d. 1809). John Escott left Sandhill to his brother Hugh who sold it in 1813 to John Fownes Luttrell.

In September 1821 a flyer was posted to announce the sale by auction of the stock and household goods of Mr Hugh Escott of Sandhill Farm. Three days were allocated for the sale!
The stock consisted of: 163 ewes in lamb "of the Nott kind", 107 lambs, 6 capital rams, 14 wether rams, 7 milch cows, 1 guernsey in calf, 5 fat oxen, 2 fat heifers, 12 plough oxen, 5 two year old steers, 5 two year old heifers, 5 steer yearlings, 6 heifer yearlings, 7 calves, 1 hackney horse, 1 hackney mare and colt, 3 cart horses, 6 Exmore and other Ponies, 48 store pigs, 30 hogsheads of excellent Cider in Cask, large quantity of empty pipes, puncheons and hogsheads in good condition, Sulls, Drags and Harrows, Yokes, Bows and Chains, Waggons, Carts, Putts and wheels, Cart and other Harness, etc.
Household goods included: Four-post, Field and other Bedsteads, with Cotton and other Furniture; prime Goose Feather Beds, Bolsters and Pillows; Marseilles Counterpanes, Quilts and Blankets; bed and table linen; Mahogany Dining, Card and other tables; Mahogany and other chairs; Mahogany Bureau; Mahogany and other chests of drawers; 2 8-day clocks; 1 30-hour clock; Chimney, Pier and Swing Glasses in burnished Gilt Frames; etc.
